Fishing and Boating

The Mackay Region is well known nationally as one of the best fishing locations on the east coast of Australia. Nestled beautifully behind the protected waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday islands, The Mackay Region has one of the most unique fisheries in Australia. The saltwater fishing is a harmonious blend of the northern tropical reef species and the southern demersal species.

Within 45 minutes you can fish from a tropical reef and then be in a rainforest stream, a blue water river, a sandy estuary or an inland dam.

Find out more about what Mackay has to offer or for upcoming events visit the Mackay Region website.
